Brilliantology is one of those funny words that was invented on a whim because I needed to decide on a domain name. I was just trying to think of one for my mum, really, because she wanted a recipe wiki and I didn’t want personal projects interfering with another domain I owned at the time (which was solely for game community related fluff).
It spawned from her day-to-day overuse of the word “brilliant” (and especially the much worse “brill”) and the simple fact she was still a university student, I had not long graduated, and we had both been studying -ologies (archaeology for me and radiology for her). My mum never really used her recipe wiki, and in the end I co-opted the domain for my own nefarious purposes and grew to actually like the name.
It’s not a very interesting story, really, it’s just that the word sounds pretty cool.
