<opinion> I feel that atheism is now just as bad as Christianity as far as narrow mindedness and organised religion goes. Many of these “atheists” will read a book by Richard Dawkins and believe it as absolute truth, much like the Christians and the bible, Muslims and the Qur’an etc. Some are even worse and proclaim atheism merely because it seems like an “intelligent” bandwagon to jump on. I’m not defending the Monotheist religions, I just think that the atheist zealots are just as bad.</opinion>
There will always be assholes looking for a label in order to feel superior to others. It’s not just confined to the ‘religious’ set. Maybe I should clarify my position as an atheist reblogging the image that sparked this opinion piece. (Not saying you’re calling me out, but eh, it’s worth making myself clear.)
I’ve never read any Dawkins (or similar), but at university I studied ancient history and archaeology. This included modules on Biblical history (directly referencing the Old Testament as one of several pieces of documentary evidence), as well as other modules which involved the development of complex societies, the construction of religious institution, and the causes and effects on societal development. I feel like I have a good academic grasp of how man creates god, and that’s a strong root in my personal atheism. It’s from that background that I reblog that previous image and smile.

Who has a funeral at a conference centre?
That’s what threw me! It’s the oddest thing to happen here so far.

:( where do you work?
I’m a designer, and I work in one of a suite of offices attached to a conference centre that get leased out to small businesses. Unfortunately, I have to walk through of one the main rooms and reception to get to the loo, and that’s how I ended up walking past them bringing the casket in, with lots of unhappy people giving me glares.
I knew England would go out in this round, but that was a bloody shambles.
Oh and, FYI:
“We’re told the referee, on seeing images of the Frank Lampard shot that crossed the line, said: ‘Oh my God’.”

(courtesy of Brilliantology)We still wouldn’t have won, but 4-2 would have been nice.
Right. Time to switch allegiance (as is the tradition) - !Viva Espana!*
*(I know it’s wrong. Tumblr won’t let me use the correct symbols ¬_¬)
You can always assume that being bolstered by a second goal would have put a bit more fight into the team, but you’re right, it wouldn’t necessarily have made much of an impact in the game, but it would have alleviated some of the embarrassment that the England side will be struggling with now.
Honestly though, I’m not a football fan and even I recognised the poor form England have been in throughout this competition. Odd moments of brilliance are overshadowed by the simple fact that the current squad - for whatever reason - aren’t cut out for this tournament at this moment.
Capello will be disappointed, the FA will probably want to make him the scapegoat for the horrible performance of actual English players, and if we’re lucky, maybe Becks will move up the food chain til he becomes the man in charge.
I’ve switched my Tumblr dashboard flag from England to Ghana now. Of course, I doubt they’ll get anywhere near the final, but I’d like to support an African nation in an African-hoster tournament now that there are no Brits in it.
edit: And Germany totally deserved to win that match, by more than 4-1.
