I like my new job.

The people are lovely, the work is interesting, and I get to be creative!

Not being able to arse around on Tumblr and Twitter all day is a strange thing compared to my previous usual daily stuff, but I’ll get used to it. Or just buy an iPhone, I guess. 

I have a three month contract in which to settle in and prove my excellence, and hopefully after that my place becomes permanent.

Certainly beats a kick in the face, doesn’t it?

I have a job!

It’s an entry-level design position (Junior Graphic Artist), but it’s a job. It’s also for what seems like an interesting company with some exciting projects, and I get to be a part of that. I’m actually much more excited than I can sound in a little blog post. Oh, I start on Monday!

I got my break into design at long last! Yay!

(Oh, my dad called to congratulate me and seemed really surprised I got a job. I mean really surprised. Thanks, Dad!?)

Suggest me some website gallery solutions!

So, I’m going to be redoing the whole of the (currently awful) Cakeology website partly as an exercise, partly as a potential portfolio piece.

Does anyone have any links to resources, tips, or other advice, that I might find useful as I hunt down a way to make a nice and easy-to-use gallery for showing off all our cakes? At the moment we use a Wordpress plugin that just pulls stuff in from our Flickr account. This is totally not ideal!

I’m not afraid of dipping into code to make alterations where necessary, and want something that’s going to work OK on the kind of shitty ancient browser that average housewives tend to use.

Busy Day Ahead

Have to run into town and do my usual “wah wah I can’t get a job” stuff at the job centre, then it’s back home to make rainbow cupcakes (seriously!) for mum’s birthday, and see if I can get myself motivated to start working on the new Cakeology website and stuff.

I’m a bit miffed that a cupcake shop opening in town has already hired staff, but it was probably too good to be true. I should stick to what I know, and try push my own frosted and iced cupcakes while mum does her big novelty cakes.

I secretly changed the Cakeology website the other day. Mum doesn’t know what I’ve done, which could be slightly interesting… anyway, no, I didn’t make this layout, it’s a fancy Wordpress theme made by someone else. I just implemented it onto the cake site. There are still things I need to fix/alter/tweak/do, but I overdosed on this stuff on Saturday and had to take today ‘off’.
