  3. If I write enough, can I have a PhD?

Today, on-and-off between other tasks and gaming, I’ve written 1600 words about The Sims 3 as a sort of opinion/review piece. It’s not actually a finished piece either, and although I was going to publish it tonight, I’ve decided to let it sit and work on it a little more tomorrow. It’s odd; a whim to counter all the whining I’ve heard about the game has turned into a sort of essay on the good, the bad, and the ugly business model of The Sims franchise.

I want to ask “why did I struggle so hard with writing for university then?” but I know the answer. Things are always easier if you enjoy them, essays are always easier if you have a genuine interest in, and passion for, the subject.

And of course it’s more fun to goof around with games than spend time doing things you should be doing for the betterment of yourself and future prospects. So, of course, I’m telling myself that working on my article writing skills is an important skill for my career development. Now, if only I could get a job in the pitiful denial industry.

    (Politics, you say?)

  5. Write when you’re mildly drunk, edit when you’re mildly sober, submit when you’re totally shitfaced.

Sounds like a plan to me!

  6. Awesome!

    seagull:

I say “awesome” far too much.

I overuse this word in text. I just can’t bear to say it aloud because I’d have to either say it with an American twist or butcher it with my English accent. Of course, neither quite sounds right.
